The front side of shrub's leaf. Compared to arbor leaf it is narrower on width and shorter on length and thinner on thickness.

The advantage is that the bud is fat and easier to be picked up. Also can be harvested more from same size of plantation, so the economy side is better.
But not suitable to be made into traditional puerh tea. Because of the monotonous taste and poor tea water. The fragrant is thinner and the levels of the taste is not so obvious.
Usually, arbor tree needs good environment especially non-polluted soil, clean water and atmosphere. Then the arbor can grow to large tree and high quality large leaf.
These trees have tall and sturdy trunk.

Epiphyte(aerophyte) grows well on arbor tree. It is unavailable to be found on shrub tree.
"Crab foot" which is called "Pan Xie Jiao 螃蟹脚" in Mandarin. Very usual on arbor tree.

The disadvantage to shrub tree is that, arbor trees are usually scattered and because of the taller trunk, tea leaf is more difficult to be picked up. Sometimes, when you finally climbed on a high tree, but you find that you can just pick up few leave.
Smaller number of trees with more difficult and fewer to be picked up leave, can you really lower your cost as same as shrub trees'?
But their are too many puerh tea products called arbor tree tea in market. 😉 You know why, right?
